I used to update my online journals all the time back in the day, blogs, devArt and other journals etc... but these days I'm just not in the mood for this sort of thing. Am I bored with it ? am I over devArt ? It would be a sad day if this was the case.

Anyways, so the most prominent piece of news since my last update was my 4 week trip to Christmas island.

Since my Jan 24th update (back to Sydney) it just happened that i traveled a bunch of times between Melbourne and Sydney and it wasn't clear where i was going to stay. i was basically jumping around looking for work, uni opportunities etc... It's not a lot of fun, being a bum (still isn't).

All of a sudden a friend of mine calls me up "wanna go to Christmas island for a month?" without thinking i say yes. a week later I'm registered, a week after that I'm on a plane heading towards that little spit in the ocean that hosts a mere 1400 residents and a further 2000+ refugees in its detention center. i was there for the refugees.

The organization i was working under is a non profit refugee support sort of people, most of what we did was have daily activities and sports etc... with the refugees to alleviate them out of their depressive state. it was an incredible experience and i'm very happy i went there.

Anyways, so now i'm back and trying to get into the old rhythm. I got some amazing shots (26gigs worth) and it's taking me for every to catalogue them, RAW process them, prepare them for devArt and facebook and family usage etc... it's a pain in the !$# but i'm three quarters done so it's all good.

This is my update. hope your month was interesting.

So much's happened since my last entry. I really do suck at updating my blogs, twitters, fb status', journal entries etc....

We first of all I'd like to introduce my new lover and friend, the awesome Canon 7D. Amazing in its beauty, facilities, its cute little mini-screen situated on top for when I wanna shoot when the camera is at my chest or hip level. Not to mention the full HD video capability. I love it !

And of course, the 18 megapixels never hurt anybody either. there is something satisfying about taking RAW images at 32Megs.

Another setting I was very excited about was how clear the high ISO setting images are, with the 350D anything above 200-400ISO was basically a snow exhibition, with this baby I'm shooting at 1000ISO and it's still looking pretty awesome.

Downsides ? well the one thing I do find to be different than using the 350D is the size and weight of the 7D. This hinders me when I wanna go out for work or with friends while lugging this baby.

I ended up giving my 350D to my sister so she can carry on the photography tradition with the family.

What else ? well I've been commissioned to do some photography and design work for some non profits and msa's which has been fun, and even though no money was exchanged for my services. I'm still working on building a good portfolio. Even though this isn't my work I still like to get more exposure etc...

That's all, see you next year.

Back to Oz

Alhumdulillah I'm back in Oz, been here a week now and I've still trying to get over a tough jet-lag and and a tougher cold.

My two years in Dubai were very interesting, I learned alot and sweated alot. Professionally it was amazing. The photographic opportunities were also just great because I had exposure to arabs, gulf arabs and the indian subcontinental culture. The UAE's diversity provided alot of fodder for my Canon.

The people of Dubai were frickin wierd, like little mice fighting over an imaginary piece of cheese, I was not able to connect with many people. The only friends I managed to connect with were friends I got to know in Australia and NZ.

Except for  m-ajinah m-ajinah.deviantart.com/ , I might have only met with him once or twice, I still enjoyed my time immensely with him. Thanks bro for being such an awesome guy. Keep in touch.

Now I'm back to something old something new, I've been to Sydney before but not for more than 2 months. Now I'm gonna have to find a job, buy a house, maybe run for MP. We'll see how it goes.

As for photography ? Well I'm planning to get a canon 7D, haven't heard of it ? it's because it hasn't been released yet, not till early October anyway, I'm very excited to be getting this baby I'm already dreaming about it.

That's my update, what's yours ?

Ramadan

3 min read
Facebook l Gallery l dA Portfolio l Watch Me l Note Me

So in a week's time many changes will happen, some of them personally to me, others to the Muslim world, and in connection to the whole world.

I'm really trying to get everything I can out of month, I've been trying to harness my bad self but so far it's been a challenge, I like to eat, I like to sleep in and I am a generally lazy person. So yeah that's still going on.

Also I'm wanting to do a black and white month, whereby I shoot only in black and white, the stuff I've been doing has been coming out great, but I'm not sure if the time of Ramadan is a good time to be doing this, the colors of the food, and of the night, of the different ethnic clothing worn by worshippers, all that will be lost ! Would it work ?

I don't want to shoot in color and then b&w it on photoshop, I want to SHOOT in black and white, so I'll be going all b&w this week trying out my luck.

That's all, what's everyone else's updates on life ?

Well I got jibbed.

I'd heard on the news from a number of sources and people that Mars was going to be really close on the 27th of August, so I got excited and decided to call out all photographers in the UAE to join me on a deep desert expedition to find the darkest spot from which to capture the red planet.

Luckily for me, I decided to get some authentic info before I made this broadcast, and guess what ! it's a hoax !

"There is an email circulating in cyberspace saying that the red planet Mars will be exceptionally close on 27 August (2006). According to one version "It will look like the Earth has two moons"!!!

Once again this is a good lesson in not believing everything on the Internet. The email is a hoax describing in a somewhat exaggerated fashion the events of 2003. On 27 August 2003 Mars was only 55.8 million kilometres away which is almost the closest possible distance it can be from Earth. To the unaided eye it looked like a shining red beacon while through a telescope a small red disc could be seen with some dark features visible. Above is a great picture of the planet by the Hubble Space Telescope taken on 27 August 2003.

In late August this year (2006) Mars is faint and just visible after sunset low in the western sky. "

Dang, well at least now I'll go to taraweeh on the 27th August
