So much happened between then and now

Journal Entry: Thu May 20, 2010, 1:58 AM
I used to update my online journals all the time back in the day, blogs, devArt and other journals etc... but these days I'm just not in the mood for this sort of thing. Am I bored with it ? am I over devArt ? It would be a sad day if this was the case.

Anyways, so the most prominent piece of news since my last update was my 4 week trip to Christmas island.

Since my Jan 24th update (back to Sydney) it just happened that i traveled a bunch of times between Melbourne and Sydney and it wasn't clear where i was going to stay. i was basically jumping around looking for work, uni opportunities etc... It's not a lot of fun, being a bum (still isn't).

All of a sudden a friend of mine calls me up "wanna go to Christmas island for a month?" without thinking i say yes. a week later I'm registered, a week after that I'm on a plane heading towards that little spit in the ocean that hosts a mere 1400 residents and a further 2000+ refugees in its detention center. i was there for the refugees.

The organization i was working under is a non profit refugee support sort of people, most of what we did was have daily activities and sports etc... with the refugees to alleviate them out of their depressive state. it was an incredible experience and i'm very happy i went there.

Anyways, so now i'm back and trying to get into the old rhythm. I got some amazing shots (26gigs worth) and it's taking me for every to catalogue them, RAW process them, prepare them for devArt and facebook and family usage etc... it's a pain in the !$# but i'm three quarters done so it's all good.

This is my update. hope your month was interesting.

Thank you for joining Iraqi-History. :)

There is a policy that permits the founder of the group to transfer the position to someone else. I'd like someone with heritage from Iraq to be the head of the group as soon as possible. Since you are and you are very fluent in English, I think you would be the best choice.

I will still stay there to help out with getting the group going, however having a head of the group who is very familiar with the culture of Iraq and Iraqis is a priority.

Hello, I am the founder of a group on Italian history called Storia-Italiana (Italian-History), similar to the highly successful group German-History. I and others, including the founder of German-History, Arminius1871, have been looking to find someone interested in founding an "Iraqi-History" group. We prefer that the person who founds it be someone with heritage from Iraq so as to not appear as if it is being run by people unfamiliar with Iraq.

You are the founder of a group for Iraqi DeviantArtists and thus have experience with administering a group and you appear interested in Iraqi culture, so you would be a good fit to be the founder of that group. If you need help with the format and getting the group set up, I will gladly help as a co-founder as I did for the group British-History that is now up and running.

Arminius1871 and I have been working together to find someone to found an "Iraqi-History" group, as Iraq is the origin of Western civilization and both Iraq and Iraqis have influenced the world history tremendously for centuries.

I hope you consider founding such a group as Arminius1871 and I will gladly provide support to get the group started.

Hi, I just received this message. Your proposal sounds interesting. How easy is it to create such a group? And what kind of material would it collect?

It should be easy to create the group. The group would collect all contemporary artwork, photographs, flags, maps, and symbols, pertaining to Iraqi history. I have set up a model of organization on Storia-Italiana / Italian-History and British-History that shows what I have in mind.

I cannot create a group at this point because I am an administrator in three groups on my standard membership. I think I'm going to leave one group to help you found this group if you are interested. I think it would be preferable to have a person of heritage from Iraq who is interested in Iraqi history to found it. I would assist as a co-founder.

I need to go somewhere soon. Perhaps tomorrow I can provide you more details and ideas I have in mind for the group.
